DENVER - Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 - Online voting starts today to choose the book that 4-year-olds in the state will be reading this spring, along with a little help from parents, siblings, friends and family. Coloradans can visit www.onebookcolorado.org to cast their vote for one of the three finalists: Penguinaut! by Marcie Colleen, Pig the Pug by Aaron Blabey, and Penguins Love Colors by Sarah Aspinall.

In its eighth year, One Book Colorado is a statewide collaboration between Lt. Governor Donna Lynne's office, Serve Colorado, the Colorado State Library, the Colorado Department of Education, the Denver Preschool Program, Denver7, Mile High United Way, public and military libraries statewide, the private sector, and the nonprofit and foundation communities. The program provides every 4-year-old in Colorado with a free copy of the same book -- in English or Spanish -- in an effort to promote early literacy skills, help families serve as their child's first and most important teachers, and foster a culture of reading.

Since the program's inception, more than half a million books have been given to Colorado 4-year-olds across the state through public and military libraries and preschools in the Denver Preschool Program. From April 9 through May 1, 2019, the program will provide another 75,000 books to encourage Colorado families to read together. Anyone can cast a vote for the winning book through the end of December 2018. Visit www.onebookcolorado.org to watch videos of Colorado community leaders reading the book selections aloud in both English and Spanish, and cast a vote today.
